Descrizione

Nicola Nettario (1155/60-1235) is the main representative of the Byzantine civilization in the land of Otranto (Lecce, Italy) and most of the Byzantine works came from him. He was the 7th abbot of Italian-Greek monastery of San Nicola di Casole. His main literary work is Tria Syntagmata, three speeches, addressed to Latins, on some controversial issues between Roman and Byzantin Church. The third Syntagma, of which we are presenting the first edition with introduction and comment about the text, discusses liturgical issues, such as Saturday fast, complet mass at Lent, clergymen’s marriage.
